Perhaps the most extensive book about woodworking in general. This and Paul Sellers “Important Woodworking Handtools” are probably the only 2 books you’ll need unless you want an in-depth book on a particular aspect of woodworking. This manual is simple and very thorough with lots of great photos and drawings.
What’s covered in the book
This includes everything from the types of wood (and the related science behind their understanding), to the styles and uses of resources. Sadly, it can’t cover something relevant to the field of woodworking, but it should be very helpful for anyone who wants to learn more about the subject or who will start some of their own projects.
I found this a book of general knowledge, which is exactly what I was looking for. Great quality of the pictures, plenty of depth and well written. It also lists a number of existing Japanese tools, and compares with American and European tools differently. Since simply reading through these pages, I have purchased a number of tools.
Bottom line
The authors go into detail on how best to use each tool, and how to prolong the usefulness and life of some. One tool is on the way now as I type and it’s one that I haven’t been able to find anywhere, especially in either of the home improvement stores that I usually visit.
In this book the content is comprehensive, to say the least. It really is a must in anybody’s collection!!!
